Abstract
Thirdhand smoke (THS) refers to contamination that persists on surfaces following smoking. Cannabis THS is chemically unique from tobacco THS and, to date, is not as well characterized. Here we examine the heterogeneous reaction of surface-bound delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) with gaseous ozone. Cannabis smoke deposits were collected in an environmental chamber on glass, cotton, and tile surfaces prior to ozone exposure. The rate of the reaction between THC and ozone was observed to be comparable on glass and tile surfaces but was nearly two times slower on cotton.
