Abstract
A fuzzy logic controller is designed to suppress the vibrations of a flexible plate. An elastic plate with clamped edges is employed in the simulation. The plate is subjected to a large initial displacement that results in uncontrolled vibrations. A fuzzy logic controller is designed to control these vibrations. First, the distributed forces are used as control inputs to determine the input and output scaling factors in designing an optimal fuzzy controller. Then, discrete piezoelectric sensors and actuators are employed for control of plate vibrations. The results demonstrate that the fuzzy logic controller is robust and adaptive and is suitable for control of linear and nonlinear plate vibrations.
