Abstract

Direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation with electromagnetic vector sensors (EMSV) is addressed for scenarios where completely polarized (CP) and incompletely polarized (IP) signals co-exist. It is shown that ESPRIT2, with an additional assumption and some extra processing, is capable of yielding reasonably good estimates of the DOA's of both CP and IP signals and of offering sensible classification of type signal types. ESPRIT2 is generalized to include more general types of three-sensor arrays and a class of array with an arbitrary number of EMSVs. Some useful insights into the identifiability issues concerning the proposed ESPRIT are also acquired.
