Abstract

After reaching a peak in 2004 the number of children being adopted internationally into the United States has declined. Over time, there have also been changes in the age, gender and country of origin of adoptees largely driven by changes in attitudes regarding inter-country adoption and laws governing the process.Understanding the trends in inter country adoption helps the pediatric provider support children and their families as they transition from their country of origin to their new country.
