Abstract
Dibutyryl cyclic AMP in the presence of theophylline was found to induce tyrosine aminotransferase and phenylalanine hydroxylase activities in human fetal liver in organ culture. These effects were completely inhibited by simultaneous incubation with cycloheximide. Corticosteroids were also found to increase tyrosine aminotransferase activity. The results demonstrate the competence of midterm human fetal liver to respond to certain drugs by increasing specific enzyme activity.
