Abstract
The pattern of left ventricular (LV) filling has been recently studied using Doppler echocardiographic flow parameters. Abnormalities have been found in association with LV hypertrophy, myocardial infarction, aging and systemic hypertension.1 The effect of exercise and the attendant increase in stroke volume and heart rate on parameters of diastolic filling have not been studied, however, but may have importance as the application of exercise echocardiography increases. This study was performed to describe the normal changes that occur during upright exercise.
