Abstract

A single dose of L-dihydroxyphenylalanine (L-DOPA, 500 mg/kg, i.p.) that caused massive disaggregation of brain polysomes also suppressed the incorporation of [3H] lysine into trichloracetic acid (TCA)-precipitable proteins of cortex, cerebellum, hypothalamus, brainstem and striatum. The magnitude of this inhibition of [3H] protein synthesis was similar in all brain regions studied, and was not related to changes in the specific activity of the precursor amino acid.
