N2 - The ecological perspective defended by Baumard & André offer a way to avoid the ambiguities that result from a notion of “inheritance” for cultural materials. It also allows us to formulate more precise empirical hypotheses concerning the motivations for producing cultural materials, as illustrated in the case of inter-group violence and of mystical explanations of misfortune.
