Abstract

A new two-equation transition model, designeted as kE-y transitional model, is developed by integrating an intermittency transport equation k-E into a one-equation turbulence model based on k-Eclosure. The computational results for standard benchmark test cases are compared to the experimental data. These cases are the ERCOFTAC flat plate series, the S809 airfoil, the Aerospatiale-A airfoil and the NLR-7301 two-element airfoil. The open source CFD software OpenFOAM is used for the flow field calculations. It is shown by computing the benchmark cases that the results from the new transition model are in good agreement with the experimental data and the model is very efficient in computing transitional flows.
