Abstract

A Liquid Hydrogen (LH2) based combustion model in NPSS is developed for a conventional single aisle, twin engine subsonic commercial aircraft. This study describes the development of the engine model with N+3 technology parameters which is validated against published engine cycle data. The model is then used to run liquid hydrogen fuel in NPSS, and emissions calculations are performed based on engine emissions data for current technology level cycles. A full description of the emissions calculations is given as well as the performance comparison of conventional aviation jet fuel vs hydrogen.
