Abstract

Sclerosing encapsulating peritonitis also called as abdominal cocoon is a less understood condition mostly due to idiopathic causes and sometimes secondary to tuberculosis or peritoneal dialysis. This report describes the typical features of "abdominal cocoon" on 18F-FDG PET/CT in a young woman, which was later diagnosed to be secondary to tuberculosis. Because the early features of this unusual entity are often nonspecific, high clinical suspicion along with understanding of the typical radiological/PET/CT features of this intriguing entity may guide the physician in ruling out the secondary treatable causes like tuberculosis, as noted in the index case.
