Abstract
This work is a critical examination of cultural production in the global medieval and global Renaissance. It questions the myth of a historically all-white, male-dominated Europe by pointing to the elisions of Africans in Europe and in the transcontinental world of the periods. Using interdisciplinary, intertextual, and intersectional theories and methodologies, this essay suggests how new analytical narratives for the European medieval and Renaissance might be structured. The theoretical parameters, methodologies, and narratives presented here challenge some of the most pernicious extremes of our times; these include rampant racism and misogyny.
