Abstract
The current understanding of the decagonal quasicrystal is presented here. Studies of the structure, morphology and the relationship of this quasicrystal to other quasicrystals and related crystals are reviewed. The production of very high-quality decagonal phase now makes it possible to study its structure and properties more reliably. Accurate information of the reciprocal lattice of decagonal phases with different periodicity is now available. Defects in the decagonal phases are also being characterized. The study of the structural relationship of the decagonal quasicrystal to other quasicrystals and crystalline phases leads to a better understanding of the structure. The properties of this phase, which shows anisotropy owing to its one-dimensional periodicity, are of scientific interest and discussed here.
