Abstract

This chapter provides an overview of the state of social work research in aging and offers directions for the future. Social work researchers in aging are beginning to establish a national presence in social work schools, but the extent to which they are conducting research is not yet clear. Furthermore, social work researchers are contributing to the multidisciplinary knowledge base in aging but "barely have a foothold in federally funded research." However, social work is well positioned to assume a true leadership role in research on aging.
