The human dimension in research—relationships, passion, resilience, and leadership—was the common thread in their advice for a successful career. We discuss strategies to cultivate intra- and inter-personal skills fostering these aspects of research. Antes and DuBois describe the important role of relationships, passion, resilience, and leadership, among other “human dimensions,” in doing great research. They describe how investigators can develop skills to enhance these dimensions by setting the goal, participating in leadership development activities, investing the time, and adopting an experimental mindset.
