Abstract
If ντ and τμ are substantially more massive than νe but decay into the lightest, the cosmological upper limit on mνe becomes less than its preliminary determinations in the laboratory. If the laboratory measurements are confirmed, such decays must have negligible rates and the sum of the neutrino masses should conform to the canonical cosmological bounds.
