Abstract
OBJECTIVE: To determine the prevalence of congenital anomalies of the kidney and urinary tract in patients with a septate uterus. STUDY DESIGN: This was a cross-sectional study performed at an academic qua-ternary care center. Female patients undergoing a radiologic procedure between 2005–2016 in which a uterine septum was identified and renal imaging was avail-able were included. The main outcome measure was prevalence of congenital anomalies of the kidney and urinary tract in patients with a uterine septum. RESULTS: A total of 127 patients met the inclusion criteria. Congenital anomalies of the kidney and urinary tract were identified in 11 patients (8.7%) and included renal agenesis (N=6), horseshoe kidney (N=2), pelvic kidney (N=1), a duplicated collecting system (N=1), and malrotation (N=1). CONCLUSION: We found that kidney and urinary tract anomalies were common in patients with a uterine septum. When a patient is diagnosed with a septate uterus, renal imaging should be recommended.
