Abstract

This paper describes the ground effect aerodynamics of a wing with both slit and no slit Gurney flap. For this purpose, FX73-CL3-152 wing with two different shapes of Gurney flaps is considered. Computational results from ANSYS FLUENT are compared to the wind tunnel test results to validate the simulation model. Computations are then performed to include the ground effect. Computations show that the presence of the ground mainly affects the size of vortices at the trailing edge of the wing resulting in larger lift force and smaller drag force compared to the wing in unbounded flow.
