Abstract

This chapter summarizes some of the key reflections from this book, which brings together multidisciplinary research and scholarship to describe commercial actors as critical influencers of health, science, and discourse and, in doing so, constitutes an important “lens” through which pressing global challenges such as climate change can be viewed. As this field continues to grow, there are legal and practical challenges for researchers, policymakers, and research funders to consider. For example, currently there is no single conference or journal that allows multidisciplinary commercial determinants research to be communicated and built. There is limited funding for junior scholars, particularly outside the most commonly studied areas. Much current research focuses on high-income settings. With these challenges in mind, this chapter outlines a research and translational agenda for commercial determinants of health.
