Abstract

Choanal atresia is a rare malformation, affecting 8:100,000 births. While bilateral choanal atresia usually needs to be surgically treated within a few days of birth, the intervention for unilateral choanal atresia should be delayed until at least 6 months of age, whenever possible. Treatment planning requires adequate imaging by CT or MRI. Transnasal endoscopic repair is the preferred technique for the surgical treatment of choanal atresia.
