Abstract

The compounds VC1(OCH2CH2Cl)2 and VC1(OCH2CCl3)2.2Et2O have been synthesised. They form complexes VCl(OR)2.2L (R=R'=CH2CH2C1 & R = R″=CH2CC13) with monodentate oxygen or nitrogen donor ligands(L) for which the magnetic moments indicate antiferromagnetic interactions The electronic spectra for the complexes are consistent with approximately octahedral coordination of V(III) involving chloride, alkoxy and two ligands. The IR bands⋎C-O) of the complexes are consistent with alkoxy bridged dimeric structures in which the ligands (L) are probably cis.
