Abstract

The post-transcriptional modification 5-methylcytosine (m⁵C) occurs in a wide range of coding and non-coding RNAs. We describe transcriptome-wide approaches to capture the global m⁵C RNA methylome. We also discuss the potential functions of m⁵C in RNA and compare them to 6-methyladenosine modifications.
