Abstract
Avascular necrosis of the humeral head is a condition of compromised blood supply leading to bone death, which can cause severe pain and functional impairment of the shoulder. Many causes have been associated with this disease, most notably corticosteroid use. When non-operative treatment has failed, core decompression, resurfacing arthroplasty and arthroplasty have shown favorable clinical outcomes.
