Abstract

In this paper a new simple rotation and curvature correction proposed by Zhang and Yang is applied to the one-equation Wray-Agarwal (WA) eddy viscosity turbulence model. The WA model with this correction is implemented in both the OpenFOAM and ANSYS Fluent software. The Wray-Agarwal model with Zhang-Yang Rotation-Curvature (WARCM) correction is calibrated by computing the 2D subsonic flow in a curved channel and in a U-duct by comparing the computations against the experimental data. In addition, the Spalart-Shur Rotation-Curvature (RC) correction is applied to the Spalart-Allmaras (SA), Shear-Stress Transport (SST) k-ω and WA models in OpenFOAM and is validated by computing the flow in a curved channel, U-duct and a rotating duct by comparing the computations against the experimental data. Comparison of the results with experimental data demonstrates the accuracy of the WA-RCM and WA-RC model. Additional comparisons to the results obtained with Reynolds-Stress-Models (RSM) show that the WARCM model is competitive with RSM with significantly less computational cost.
