Abstract

In this chapter, we walk through an atrial fibrillation ablation and discuss the recommendations and rationale for managing anticoagulation before, during, and after the procedure. We address the use of warfarin, the novel anticoagulants, heparin, protamine, and low molecular weight heparin and how to minimize risk of thrombus while still avoiding hemorrhagic complications.
