Abstract

A theoretical model was developed for the micropipette aspiration technique of the chondrocyte pericellular matrix (PCM) . The technique was applied to equilibrated deformation of an axisymmetric elastic half-space. The model accounted for different mechanical properties in distinct regions of the tissue. The developed model could also be applied to quantify the mechanical properties of isolated chondrocytes sorrounded by their PCM.
