An active add-drop filter using an ytterbium and erbium co-doped silica microsphere

Abstract

We have fabricated an active add-drop filter (ADF) using an erbium-ytterbium co-doped microsphere resonator and have achieved 25-fold Q-enhancement, 4-fold increase in efficiency and crosstalk of 2%. This ADF provides equal add and drop efficiencies.
