Abstract

This chapter discusses the currently available airway management options in the management of patients undergoing upper gastrointestinal (GI) under deep sedation. Some of the devices are approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), while others are waiting for the approval. While prospective randomized controlled trials studying the safety and efficacy of the methods discussed are not available, sufficient retrospective data is published. It is hoped that adaptation of some of the methods described will increase the safety during GI endoscopy.
