Abstract

The steady state absorption, fluorescence excitation, emission, polarization and decay kinetics of fluorescence of phycobilisomes and their constituent bili-proteins phycocyanin and allophycocyanin isolated from cyanobacterium Spirulina platensis are presented here. The fluorescence kinetics were found to be dominated by a fast (ps) and a slow (1 ns) decay component. The fast decay component is attributed to intramolecular energy transfer from sensitizing to fluorescing chromophore.
