N1 - Funding Information:
The benefits of this editorial fellowship for trainees likely mirror the reported success of RSNA’s faculty-equivalent editorial fellowship, the William R. Eyler Editorial Fellowship (41). These benefits include launching successful academic careers, later involvement on peer-reviewed journal editorial boards, and improving the fellow’s perspective on research design and manuscript reviewing, thereby augmenting his or her research and academic portfolio.
Funding Information:
Trainee-focused RSNA grants, funded by the RSNA Research and Education Foundation, provide support for a 1-year project with increasing financial support to level of training. Two broad categories of trainee grants include medical student research grants and resident/fellow research grants. At the time of writing, these grants provide the following levels of support: $3000 for medical students, $30 000 for residents, and $50 000 for fellows (32). Projects may be of broad focus, including hypothesis-driven scientific research, quality improvement, informatics, and others. Recipients are honored at the RSNA Annual Meeting, with the potential for augmenting or jump-starting a successful career in research and/ or academic radiology. One important requirement for these grants is institutional support to ensure that the applicant will have the time to perform the outlined project, which is typically in the form of protected time expressed in a supporting letter from the respective department chair. RSNA grants for trainees have a favorable funding rate. In 2018, RSNA grants had a 30% funding rate for all grants (resident, fellow, scholar, seed, education) and 34% funding rate for resident grants (33).

N2 - The Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) offers educational resources and career development opportunities through many opportunities for trainees. However, trainees frequently lack access to or awareness of these opportunities and requirements. The purpose of this article is to promote access to RSNA trainee opportunities by illustrating their qualifications, advantages, and characteristics. Access to opportunities starts with RSNA member-ship, which grants access to several educational, research, and career development offerings. One focal point of RSNA opportunities is the RSNA Annual Meeting in Chicago, Ill, which provides several trainee-specific events. RSNA educational opportunities include access to board preparation content and information about emerg-ing radiologic technologies. Research opportunities include mentor pairing, project development workshops, venues for presentation and publication, and the William W. Olmsted Editorial Fellowship for Trainees. Career development opportunities include positions for society involvement, leadership, and job searching. Collectively, the information presented in this article can guide the approach to early radiology career development for interested medical students, residents, fellows, and faculty advisers.
