Abstract

Accurate turbulence modeling for the solution of Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations remains a critical and pacing item in prediction of turbulent flows. In this paper, a new one-equation eddy-viscosity model is derived from the two-equation k-kl model. The new model is used to simulate several benchmark canonical wall-bounded turbulent flows with small regions of separation. The open-source software OpenFOAM is used for the flowfield calculation. It is shown that the new model improves the accuracy of the flow simulations compared to the one equation Spalart-Allmaras model.
