A density variance correction based on wray-agarwal turbulence model for simulation of hypersonic flows

Abstract

This paper implements a density variance equation to the recently developed one-equation Wray-Agarwal (WA) eddy viscosity turbulence model. The derivation is described and numerical results from the WA model are compared to the experimental data for several standard hypersonic test cases. Computational results for supersonic/hypersonic flow past a flat plate and for an axisymmetric shock wave boundary layer interaction are presented. It is shown that the Wray-Agarwal turbulence model with density variance equation gives a good agreement with the experimental results.
