Abstract

This chapter discusses the developmental processes and mechanisms through which the intricate circuitry of the retina arises from a uniform pool of progenitor cells. The chapter is divided into conceptually sequential but developmentally overlapping steps in the assembly of the mature retina and focuses, when possible, on evidence gathered in mice.
