Abstract
Aim: The aim of this randomized, double blinded, prospective study was to investigate the effects of sevoflurane or sevoflurane with remifentanil induction on Q-T interval in unpremedicated children. Material and Methods: 40 ASA I-II children undergoing elective ear, nose, throat surgery were included into the study. Sevoflurane 8% was used for anesthesia induction in decreasing concentrations. No muscle relaxant was used. Patients were randomly allocated into two groups to receive either sevoflurane 8% (Group S) or sevoflurane 8% with remifentanil 1 mcg kg -1 iv (Group SR) for anaesthesia induction. Anaesthesia was maintained in both groups with sevoflurane adjusted to end tidal 2,5% in 50% O 2/50% N 2O. Twelve lead electrocardiograms were recorded before induction, after induction and after intubation and evaluated for Q-T interval changes. Q-T interval (Q-Tc) was assessed with Bazett's formula for adjustment of heart rate. Result: There were no significant differences in terms of demographic data, duration of surgery and anesthesia between the two groups. No intergroup statistical differences in Q-Tc were observed (p=0.073). Q-Tc was significantly longer at after induction and intubation periods when compared to before induction in both groups (p<0.05).
