Dr. Rice’s research interests include methodological issues related to defining / refining the measurement of complex traits through statistical methods, and in analytical / methodological issues underlying genetic studies, including genome-wide association study data. Her applied research is largely in genetic epidemiological investigations of traits related to the metabolic syndrome (obesity, diabetes, hypertension and lipids). She has published over 190 research articles in these areas. Dr. Rice also has active interests in training and mentoring activities for the next generation of biomedical workforce. In particular she is director of data coordinating center for a series of mentored summer institute training programs and also teaches genetic epidemiology in the masters programs in the Institute for Informatics, Data Science and Biostatistics.
