My research is primarily focused on cancers of the head and neck, which is also my surgical area of expertise. Our group is interested in understanding aspects of tumor heterogeneity as it pertains to malignant, stromal, and immune cell diversity and in particular understanding the molecular underpinnings that may drive metastasis and treatment resistance. We leverage cutting edge sequencing techniques such as single cell RNA sequencing as well as traditional biochemical and functional approaches to better understand this challenging disease.
Dr. Puram's clinical interests encompass head and neck cancer, HPV-related head and neck cancer, conditions of the thyroid and parathyroid glands, salivary gland tumors and disorders, and skin cancers and benign tumors of the head and neck. He is extensively trained in advanced head and neck ablative surgery, transoral robotic surgery, skull base surgery, and microvascular reconstruction.
As a leader in the clinical and research space in head and neck cancer, I am firmly committed to the mentorship and development of diversity candidates. I strive to mentor every individual to be the best version of themselves. I ask equal engagement from my mentees to help achieve these goals.
