Research interests
Ross Brownson studies how to disseminate and implement health research to better prevent and control chronic diseases such as cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and obesity. This includes understanding barriers to implementing evidence-based interventions and finding ways to overcome them.
Areas of practice
As co-director of WashU Public Health’s Dissemination and Implementation Science Innovation Research Network, Brownson works to facilitate collaborations that translate evidence into practice. He directs WashU’s Prevention Research Center, which develops innovative approaches to chronic disease prevention by encouraging health-promoting behaviors. He also is a co-leader of the Prevention and Control Program at Siteman Cancer Center.
Brownson has led a large-scale training program for public health practitioners on evidence-based public health for more than 20 years. In this course, his teams have trained over 4,000 practitioners.
