Research interests

I manage Alafi Neuroimaging Laboratory, an imaging core facility, where I help users to design, perform and analyze experiments ranging from confocal/multiphoton imaging of fixed tissue to using advanced techniques such as FRET and photoactivation to monitor and/or change in living cell functions. I specialize in using fluorescent indicators to measure concentrations of free ions, especially calcium, in living cells. I am particularly interested in studying the mechanisms of maintaining calcium homeostasis and its dysregulation in neurons subjected to excitotoxic stimuli.
