My laboratory studies the pathogenic role of epigenetic regulators in prostate cancer development and progression, with a focus on the mechanisms by which these factors co-operate with transcription factors to drive tumor heterogeneity and resistance to various standard of care therapies such as radiotherapy, anti-androgen therapy and immune therapy. We combine basic science, pre-clinical and clinical studies with an emphasis on the translational impact with the goal of developing new diagnostics and therapeutics for novel cancer targets. We employ human prostate cell line, xenograft, and genetically engineered mouse models to address mechanisms of drug resistance and immune suppression in prostate cancers
My mentoring philosophy is based on recognizing individual talents, respecting their interests and inputs, and investing in individual development. I encourage diversity of thought, collaboration and team science that allow us to jointly bring our unique experiences to learn and grow. I work to create a lab environment which embodies scientific rigor, fellowship, growth mind-set and excitement for the work. I am very committed to fostering a culture of inclusive excellence across research. I have conducted research with students and fellows from diverse backgrounds believing in their potential. Regardless of their level, I train each of them to grow as scientists and as team members. Importantly, I spend one on one time with everyone to develop and advance their careers and provide guidance towards their interests.
