Dr. Finney is fellowship trained in both pediatric emergency medicine and EMS. He is focused on improving the prehospital care of children through clinical research with both Fire and EMS. He is currently working on a multi-institution trial through the Pediatric Emergency Care Applied Research Network (PECARN) evaluating the use of a novel ventilation feedback device to improve prehospital pediatric manual ventilation. His other research interests include standardizing the EMS to Emergency Department handoff of critically ill children, evaluating EMS identification of child abuse, and evaluating the use of ketamine for benzodiazepine refractory status epilepticus.
Dr. Finney is also working in collaboration with Dr. Lindsay Clukies to distribute gun locks within the north county of Saint Louis in order to increase safe storage and decrease gun related injuries. Within the hospital, Dr. Finney is working to increase the utilization of MRI in the diagnosis of acute appendicitis through an implementation project aimed at decreased radiation exposure in the pediatric population.
Dr. Finney is the Director of Emergency Medical Services at Saint Louis Children's Hospital. He works closely with EMS and fire agencies to provide focused education in the care of critically ill and injured children.
Dr. Finney works closely with local EMS and Fire agencies to provide education on the care of children. He is also the creator of "The Pediatric EMS Podcast" focused on evidence-based guidance in the prehospital care of children.
