Personal profile

Research interests

My research focus is on the impact of obesity and diabetes on mitochondrial biogenesis and function. I have previously conducted studies using animals models of obesity and diabetes with gain and loss-of-function of important transcriptional regulators of mitochondrial metabolism. I am currently transitioning my research focus to evaluate the impact of maternal nutrition and diabetes on mitochondrial metabolism in their offspring. I have spent the last year developing expertise in Drosophila biology and have now generated a model system for evaluating offspring exposed to maternal caloric excess.

Clinical interests

Treating children in the Pediatric Intensive Care unit during hospitalization only.
