My research is focused on host-microbial interactions at two mucosal tissues: the urinary bladder and the Placenta. We study mechanisms of tissue repair and regeneration in the bladder following Urinary tract infections; we focus on increased risk of UTIs in postmenopausal women. We also study transplacental infections during pregnancy (e.g., ZIka virus); and investigate the role of placental microbiome in development of fetal immunity.
