Dr. Nicol’s research program broadly aims to better understand the association between obesity and psychiatric illnesses, specifically focusing on deciphering underlying mechanisms that lead to increased cardiometabolic risk in mentally ill populations. Collaborating with investigators in psychiatry, internal medicine, pediatrics and psychology, she has developed expertise in psychopharmacology, the use of and interpretation of data from gold standard metabolic testing, and behavioral interventions to treat and prevent obesity. Her current research projects include clinical trials evaluating medical and behavioral interventions to reduce metabolic risk in children and adults with mental illness.
