Research interests

Dr. Gao’s primary research interests focus on the joint modeling of longitudinal and survival data, especially the effects of longitudinal biomarker fluctuation on clinical outcomes. He collaborates with clinicians in various clinical trials and translational studies to bring basic scientific findings into diagnostic and therapeutic endpoints. He provides statistical expertise in modeling health-related quality of life data, assessing circadian rhythms and sleep/wake disturbance for cancer survivors, and monitoring disease progression in patients with early phase glaucoma. Dr. Gao is a faculty biostatistician in Biostatistics and Qualitative Research Shared Resource at Siteman Cancer Center (SCC). He provides statistical support as a lead faculty biostatistician in SCC Hematopoietic Development and Malignancy Program (HDMP). His responsibilities include study design, safety monitoring, data analysis, and manuscript/abstract preparation.
