Research interests
Dr. Schuerer’s focus is care of the traumatized and critically injured patient, concentrating on patient safety and improved patient outcomes. His current effort is improving outcomes in his role as Medical Director of Trauma at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, where he is responsible for the care of the injured patient at every point during their stay. His current focus is ensuring improved trauma outcomes by quickly identifying patients at need for increased resources using a longitudinally applied trauma outcome scoring system.

Surgical critical care, trauma, burns, multiple organ failure, pathophysiology of shock and sepsis, infection, ARDS, hemorrhage
