Research interests
Debra Haire-Joshu is a nationally recognized leader in developing high-impact, population-wide interventions that improve maternal and child health by preventing diabetes and cardiovascular disease across the lifespan. She directs the Washington University Center for Diabetes Translation Research, a national center that accelerates the integration of cutting-edge scientific discoveries into real-world practice. The Center has advanced innovative strategies adopted by organizations, communities, and policymakers across the country, preventing and treating chronic disease and significantly improving population health.
Areas of practice
Haire-Joshu designs and tests interventions that support healthy lifespan trajectories by partnering with community-based organizations such as Parents as Teachers to embed evidence-based programs into real-world home-visiting services and inform family-centered health policies.
Education activities and interests
Haire-Joshu teaches chronic disease prevention and policy courses at the School of Public Health.
